I have a 1962 Sea King 3 HP (Gale manufactured) model # gg18735 (no A or B as I've seen posted). I rebuilt the carb, tuned her up, gave her a fresh coat of cherry red paint, and she runs great. I have not replaced the impeller/rotor, but it seems to be working just fine and I monitor it constantly. All I know about the motor has been attained here in Iboats, so in advance I thank everyone here.

My only lingering issue is that I get a lot of water in the lower unit with each use. I drain it and re-lube it after every use, but I would like to fix it right. Does any one have a skematic or a suggestion on how to remedy this? Where is the most likely point of entry for the water? Any help is appreciated!

What are you using for lube? They take grease, not oil. Most people use Lubriplate 105.

The seals in those things suck. The drive shaft seal is hard or impossible to get to. The prop shaft seal is fitted into the bearing. The bearing is made of Oilite bronze. Oilite is porous and grease/oil will go right through it, bypassing the seal. The grease then causes the impeller (properly called a "rotor" to swell up and not pump enough. For that reason most of them have been run hot. I modify all of mine to accept a seal pressed into the housing instead of into the bearing.

I'm using the Libriplate 105 grease per reccomendations on this site. I haven't yet noticed it leaking back out, but that may be because it has been displaced by the water entering the unit.

I'm only savy enough to get myself into trouble with that type of work, but I have a mechanic who could do it at my shop. What parts would I need to make that modification and how do I get ahold of them?

When you say housing, are you refering to the housing that the rotor sits in?
