so i got my lower unit rewelded as i had posted b4 and thanks to everyone who replied!!!!

my new problem is that something happened when i took it off as u can see. the places with the L wrinch nut is to high when i put the lower unit on all the way so i cant tighten it down. if i spin the prop the gear rod will go rev and fwd, not nuetrual. i tried pushing the lower unit shift rod down but it wont and it has no effect on reverse or fwd.

WHAT DO I DO??

Re: lower unit problem???

Something's amiss in your lower unit...your shift rod should move smoothly through F, N, R when it's on and off the motor. Is your shift lever in R when you remount the lower unit? Seems like it should be, so the upper shift rod will be down. On my older OMC's, I can't get to the shift rod connector at all when it's in F...I can see it, but no room to get to the bolt. Mine have to be in N or R to undo the shift rod connector.

It is very unlikely, Hunter, that anyone but you remembers what engine you have or what your original problem was.

Seems to me that would be necessary information to be any help here.

There are so many posts here that it's very important to identify your outboard in each new thread.

I don't have your outboard, but you probably have to shift into whatever gear places the connector in the window. That's typical. You can shift the lower unit with the lower shift rod. You may have to turn the prop by hand to get it to shift.

From your photo, it looks like the connector ends up too high to tighten, so whatever gear engages when you push the lower shift rod down with the lower unit off will be the right gear, but you'll have to try it out to see.

It can be difficult to shift the lower unit, so remember that you may have to turn the prop as you push or pull on the lower shift rod.

In your other post didn't you say the shift rod came out at one point? Were you able to get it back in correctly?I would suspect the neutral gate is narrow and difficult to get unless the rod is assembled correctly.. By the way very nice pics and graphics.

the shift rod came up but not out. the drive shaft came out but went back in. the lower unit, isnt in any gear, either way i turn it, the drive shaft moves, there is no neutral. i'm thinking i might have to open up the lower unit, this cant be this complicated can it? arnt all lower units about the same??

IT SEEMS NO ONE KNOWS ANYTHING ABOUT THESE MOTORS, I CALLED THE SERVICE STORES AROUND ME ON THIER WEBSITE LIST, THEY ONLY WORK ON THE ENGINES NOT THE MARINE PARTS! AND NO MARINE/BOAT PLACE WILL WORK ON IT EITHER!

AND WORST OF ALL NO ONE EVEN HERE ON IBOATS KNOWS ANYTHING! LOL. SO I HAD TO ORDER A REPIRE MANUAL, I'm gunna have to figure it out alone!

Re: lower unit problem???

with the shift rod in the correct postion you should be able to tighten it. it will not get neutral with the shift handle without being tightened. It will skip between forward and neutral. As mentioned from those who don't know anything the neutral is a small window. It is up too high because it's in the wrong gear when you have it together. turn your shift handle where the rod will come down to tighten it. Oh somebody already said that too. Oh well not my motor.

Good thing you put that LOL in there with all the shouting. But you are right, nobody knows anything about B&S outboards. Maybe someday we will. You might be the first "expert" on them.
