i have a merc 115 6cyl early 70's model i had a prop problem & have gotten a new prop while i was at it it was suggested to change the impeller i have seen this done & also did some research plus talked to some people in the know about changing the impeller. I removed the lower unit, changed the impeller & attempted to re-install the unit i got it in ,up to within an inch of being buckled together and went to turn the prop to get the shaft to turn so it would align and slide into place. when i turned the prop the shaft would not turn i take the unit back out and get it on the bench & when i turn the prop i can feel the shaft wanting to turn but won't if i turn the shaft the prop will turn but just barely if i apply the slightest amount of pressure with my had the prop will stop turning i can feel the prop wanting to turn but there is no real force applied to the prop. Have i disengaged the shaft or prop or is there a problem in my lower unit. I have tried to post this question several times the prop forum sent me here & this is my 3rd attempt to get this question posted so hopefully it will post this time .All input is appreciatted i'm new to outboard repairs but have years & years of car exp. it helps but outboards appear to be there own animal thanks p.s the boat was taken to a local dealer/repair shop & the manager lokked at it & had me put it reverse, forward & nuetral while attempted to turn the prop & he said my lower unit looked fine & get another prop.
