My wrench put a 115hp lower unit on my 65hp thunderbolt saying it would be fine just the ratio is different and he put on a different brass prop on it because he bent the last one anyway because i was replacing the LU coz skeg was ripped off and when he took LU off he hit the prop and bent but anyway it was screwed..

Is it alrite to put a 115hp LU on a 65HP from the same era... They were both 1970 Thunderbolt Engines

Thanks guys

He said the ratios are quite different but he said the prop he put on will compensate for it and i won't notice anything and it will probably be better even?

Is my wrench talking out of his ass to make a few $$$

The 1970 1150 Merc had to the 1.78:1 ratio gearcase and the 650 a 2:1 gearcase.
A 1.78:1 gearcase is capable of higher top end speeds.
