Lower Unit Question

I am a searcher. I do not remember what the fin on the bottom of the lower
unit is called.
Mine got broke off today. It is on a 125 Force. Do I need it?

Any help is greatly appreciated!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's called a skeg. You can get by without it as long as you don't make tight turns in tight places. It will handle differently at the edge so get to learn how it handles before pulling tubes or boards.

It really does not offer much protection to the prop, but it will help a little during turning.

I had the same thing happen a couple years ago. I bought a Skeggard to cover up the damage and "replace" the broken skeg. Options at iboats can be found here.
