I am about to try and drop the lower unit on my Johnson 115. It is jumping out of gear when in forward at low speed and on plane. It seems to be getting worse and time to check on damage, maybe replace gears and water pump at the same time. Never done it before. I did get some advice on a couple of things but maybe a refresher here would be beneficial. Thanks, one other thing, is a water pump kit going to include a new impeller? I also would like to know if replacing the rectifier is wise as this work is done? Not even sure the function of a rectifier, sorry but I am more fisherman than mechanic.....

It bangs and it is instant and feels like I hit a chunk of wood on the motor. Sudden and you can feel it. Goes back in gear, no noticeable slow down as it is so quick.
