I want to do the impeller on my 1973 evinrude 135hp
Just wanted to check before forcing my bottom end off.
I got the bolt that "clamps" the shift rod under carbs,
Got the 1 bolt under the trim tab
The 1 bolt almost in center of unit
The 4 bolts (2 on either side)

Should it be free to drop now? it did give me a very small space almost all the way around.
Should I apply force to free it.
Do I NEED to remove the prop? Flywheel?
Was told to put motor in reverse to ease shift rod removal, but should motor be in neutral?

I actually suspect that this bottom end has been repaired, The prop looks as though it has never seen water. The flywheel key was snapped. had a B$#@* of a time to get it running, I think the guy that sold it to me clipped something..... which sheared the key. They fixxed the obvious damage to bottom end, couldn't get motor to run or run right, and sold it to some shmuck.... ME.

Thats what I needed, I will be sure to pass that page on.
The 2 person approach was what I needed, didn't have motor up enough to clear the shafts.
Got it off but ran out of light.
I will do Impeller and seals tomorrow, reinstall and pray.

So I pulled the impeller out and as fate would have it.... the housing has some melting damage and the metal lining is rough, I took pics. But they are to large to post here

imeller seems normal.

So went a little further pulled the bearing housing and seal. There is minor groving around the housing on the bottom end about where the thrust bearing sits

Should I be concerned?
I think I better order a new housing tommorow.

Install a complete water pump kit ... don't try to salvage junk.

Ya I know I've gone this far don't cheap out now....
The kit actually doesn't come with housing....
but got all the new seals and such to redo the bearing seal & impeller water inlet and outlet seals.
Got a housing on order, but going to see if he has a good used one tonight.

Sweet!!!
I scored a very good condition used alum. housing !!! $25.
I live in Manitoba, Canada my boat will never see salt water. So no concerns now with plastic parts, or pitting from salt.
redid the seals on bearing carrier, and the O ring on housing.
Anyone have a trick to keep the spring that is on the seal facing down, to stay on the seal?
Keeps popping off when I slide the assembly over the "bump" at top of shaft, just below the top spline.

You should have two identical seals (317843 or 321453) back to back in the bearing carrier; a little gear oil on the shaft makes it easier to replace over the driveshaft.

I had bought those seals then brought all peices to my guy he said that the bearing carrier/housing had been changed, he did some searching and found the correct ones for that carrier. both seals are the same top and bottom.
I am using the triple gaurd grease to slide parts over the shaft
will try oil tonight

Wha wha whaaaaaa
That housing didn't fit the shaft, and the new plastic one same thing.
So I need a housing, could return the impeller if need be.
The kit #439140 does come with housing but they are backordered with no ETA from their supplier.
The housing is available roughly 4 days to deliver so probaly not going to use this boat for my trip next weekend.
Don't want to screw up with a simple mistake cause I rushed.
Would order a kit online but the sites are USA and by the time it crosses border It would be longer than 5 days.
