Hey guys,
Having a brain fart here. Removing the lower unit on my 1991 Rude 70 HP. Removed the shift rod retaining clip, got all the bolt out and it's dropping about an inch or so. It's only been 2 years since I did this and it seems like it was a cake walk. What in the heck am I forgeting to do?

Thanks,

Are you sure you have the shift rod fully disengaged from the shift link. Push it back up, and see if the shift link moves. I see some forehead slapping when that gearcase falls down.

Thanks R. Johnson,
I pulled the clip on it and pushed in the the shift arm and it's not coming loose. I know I'm missing something. Should I have the gearcase all the way back up? Any particular gear I want to be in?

Naw, I had one bolt still in there, so my foot is still intact. Must be gettin' to old for this stuff.. Funny how you remember so well how to do something when you finally get it done  ....
