lower unit replacement shift rod does not match up

I am replacing my lower unit 86 Johnson 115 tlcrd I bought one from an 88 spl looks good and bolted right up but shift rod was nowhere close.I pulled it off and the bend at the top is different no way this will work so I guess my question is can I easily swap these shift rods around I searched the old posts and found nothing on this. any help would be great!

Should be able to swap ... you need to find out the correct length to set it, though.

Yep, just unscrew yours and screw it into the replacement unit. As Jim mentioned all you have to do is set the height according to the manual.

21"7/8 to center hole in nutral exsact match never had to adjust a thing
just screwed it in

ive found to bottom old one out counting turns in then bottom new and come out the same amount of turns and it is usually 7 turns from bottom on most crossflow
150 175 has worked for me every time and also a140 and a115 that i did
7 turns off bottom and never had to check them again
but you can mmeasure you height with tool set it then run it down counting turns bet its near 7 let me know how many out if ya ever pull it again
