I have a 1991 Bayliner ceria sunbridge 2655 mercruiser alpha 1 outdrive . the boat slid off the trailer on a concrete boat ramp . so far I see is the lower unit casing broken , oil drained out . the boat has 842 hours on it . should I find a used casing and transfer my gears to it or buy a new lower unit ? also should I be looking for other damage to the outdrive or hull ? thank you for looking .

Agree with above most sure fire way is a bolt on SEI.

Would check transom for signs of flex cracking as the weight ended up on the drive. Given the age would keep and eye out for transom and stringer rot anyways

what broke? the bow eye, the nylon strap or the rusted cable or did someone remove the safety chain before the wheels were in the water

I had trouble with the 2000lb winch engaging , as I was loading the boat onto the trailer , I could not pull up the boat to the safety chain , winch was not strong enough . hopping the winch would hold , I started to pull the boat up the boat ramp . it was working until I got almost to the top and the winch started free wheeling . dumped the boat completely on the ramp . I ordered a 12000lb winch new , for the 7000 lb boat , maybe overkill , under normal circumstances I should be able to bring the boat up to the safety chain

Yeah, nice to see it in person. Before buying I'd pressure test, pop the top cap to check bearings, check oil, and make sure it turns smoothly. Always rolling the dice to some extent though

I did check the transom for any flexing , seems really solid . no movement when I tried to move the outdrive from side to side or up and down . after I replace the lower unit , I will see for sure when I do a test drive and stay in shallow water to check for leaks .

Ha. Happened to my '76 Sea Ray. One tough old boat. Welded lower unit and replaced ram ends. Still going several years later.
