After replacing the water pump impeller I now have lots of bubbles coming from the front of my lower unit. I assume it is exhaust pressure. So, I must drop it again, every so slightly and apply sealant.
Questions: What brand sealant is recommended?
Should the exhaust be able to enter the water pump area of the lower unit? I remember an extension from the lower unit that fit into the exhaust area of the mid section (Don't know what this section is called). Shouldn't the extension prevent the exhaust from getting into this area?
Any help appreciated.
Jerry

Re: Lower Unit Seal 90HP Rude

Jerry,Did you replace the rubber seals on the exhaust boot when you serviced waterpump? If not they may be your bubble source. They tend to get brittle with age and don't reseat well once unit has been lowered for service.I recommend installing new.
Sealant is not needed between the lower unit and mid-housing.Just insure the surfaces are clean and and mate up flush when installing. This cavity is open to drain anyway. Some hi-temp silicone works for me however on the new exhaust boot seals when stabbing lower unit.

exhaust housing
