Re: lower unit seal change

Are you replacing all lower unit seals or is the one you have the driveshaft seal only? There is another one on the prop shaft and shift rod as well as the drain/fill plug gaskets, you really need to do the lot to do a proper job, they are available in a kit afaik. You will probably also need a water pump kit or part thereof as you will be pulling this off when you do the driveshaft seal.

Re: lower unit seal change

If its only the prop shaft seal which four bolts do you need to remove to get to that? Should only require prop removal unless the bearing seal carrier needs to come out as well. From what i can make out the seal/s you need should be 0321463 and there are two of them, check that the one/s you have are actually right first. There is supposed to be a thrust washer in behind the prop which may need to be checked. If the carrier does need to be removed you will need an oring for each of the four bolts 0317178 and one for the carrier 0313446. Remember to tape the splines up on the shaft before installing the new seals to protect them from damage.

No sweat mate, i think you will find we are both correct.....six of one, half a dozen of the other.....the boats.net site is saying the original OEM seals (0321463) are still available for that year, usually says there superseded otherwise, just wanted you to check......

Carry on....:)
