Hello I went to drain my oil out the lower unit the other day and I got about half oil half water. I have removed everything and cleaned everything up. I have replaced the prop oil seal and o ring. Then I replaced the drive shaft oil seal and put new o rings on my fill/drain plugs. I did put new sealent around the casing and the Philips head screw and well buttoned it all up. Now I got everything replaced is there a seal where the gear selector goes thru the case it just looks like brass on brass. Oh yea and if your wondering I have a 1960 18hp Johnson. If anyone knows if I'm heading in the right direction or will I get water in it again of I put it back without the seal on the gear selector. Well thanks.

Yes, there is an O ring under the brass bushing for the shift rod. You need to remove the bushing with a tool that you can make yourself. If you search this forum you will see find lots on it and how to make it.
