Will I have to completely take the lower unit apart to change the seals in my 1983 115 HP Merc? Is this a job for the shade tree boat mechanic?

Not a job for the shade tree mech. without a factory manual, access to tools and patience.

Remember to make sure you need to replace the prop shaft seal before you open that can of worms. You can test it with a bicycle pump but dont go over about 15 psi. the water pump and shifter shaft seals are usually a peice of cake. I never changed a mercury prop shaft seal thank goodness.<br />robby

I have a manual and patience and basic tools. I guess I will get the bike pump and try and see where it is coming from.

Will I need the special tool to remove the shift shaft bushing?
