Lower Unit Seals

need a DIY write up on changing lower unit seals on a mid 70's model Mercury model 200, 20 HP outboard. Local shop wants 200 bucks to do it, that seems a little steep

If you mean all the seals, you are talking about dropping the lower unit, removing the water pump and housing, prop, draining and refilling the gearbox fluid, reassembling and testing; plus parts. Being a '70's vintage, some of the fastners may be reluctant to loosen. Additionally, the splines that connect the lower unit to the rest of the engine may be crudded up making removal time consuming and difficult.

Sounds good to me.

I agree after searching for the best deal myself for everything if I could have my lower unit sealed for 200 i jump all over it!
