lower unit shift rod cap

thanks for your replys on my topic....i have a seloc repair manual and in 2 places it talks about the cap...the first thing it says ..."check to be sure that the cap on the bottom of the shift rod casing is in place."...then again it says ..."continue lowering the solenoid until the cap on the end of the shift rod casing seats on top of the valve lever and check ball assembly." ....it shows a blowup of my lower unit and if it is correct im missing the part at the bottom of my shift rod. i understand about every aspect of the way it is suppose to shift and every thing checks good......maybe my book has a misprint and ive got problems somewhere else, i dont know this is the first lower unit ive tried to repair.....

That lower shift rod cap (I don't have one) would be OMC part number 315484, listing for about $10.00.
