Re: Lower unit swap

they should, check where you water goes into the lower unit, there are 2 different lowers one has the water pick up on the torpedo and the other is above the torpedo and below the cavitation plate. im not sure if the 2 styles are interchangable

Have you thought about asking the person selling it? Just a thought.

Re: Lower unit swap

Around 78 or 79, they redesigned the lower unit. That is a one piece lower and you have a two piece lower unit. Although the drive shaft splines are the same, that is all. The gears are different, the drive shaft length is different, the prop shaft splines are different, and the bolt pattern is different. AND, unless that has been painted, it is a Force lower, not a Chrysler. All Chrysler and early Force engines were white.

Chrysler did advertise that the one piece lower was faster. a year ago, I actually did the swap on my Glastron V153 with my three cylinder 90. I swapped the block from a two piece midleg and lower unit onto a one piece midleg and lower unit. Same block, same carbs, same mounting, same weight. Only change was the mid and lower units. As Chrysler advertised back then, the one piece lower is about three MPH faster. 42 MPH vs. 39 MPH

NOW: If you want to do the swap. send me a private message. I have a number of midlegs sitting extra. Everything from your engine will swap onto the newer midleg--nothing significant was changed until the 1990s
