I am having problem removing the lower unit vent screw and am wondering if I still can change the gear oil without removing it. I have tried a bunch of methods of removing it with no luck and don't want to push my luck and possibly snapping the screw inside.

Re: Lower Unit Vent Screw

I would try an impact screwdriver, onewei. It is the type you smack with a mallet, not an impact wrench. That should get it started.

A previous owner/wrench wannabe might have put it in too tight and without a gasket.

If that fails I would drill it and try an easy-out. Either way you will probably need a new plug. Be sure to chase the threads in the hole and use a new gasket when you are done.

Good luck. :)

I will give that a try thanks for the info. as for the previous owner he shore did put it in tight, you can see by the markings around the hole that he even had problems.
