My 94' 70hp Force is leaking water around the shocks on the lower unit. At least, I think its leaking. I don't recall this happening before, but it doesn't look right. I have done some fuel pump and carburetor work but I have yet to get on the water this season. This is my only hold up. Does anyone know what?s going on or how to fix it? I have the Clymer manual, so you can reference that if you know of anything in it. I'll post pics tomorrow when I have access to a faster internet connection. Thanks guys.

Re: Lower Unit Water Leak

Is water coming out of the idle exhaust port on the upper part of the leg? Is the water intake tube on the lower unit properly connected to the tube running up to the motor?

I don't see any water coming out of that exhaust port you mentioned. And I don't know if the line from the water intake to the engine is alright or not. The motor is peeing a good stream though at idle and when I advance the throttle.

So the water intake is only supposed to go up through the impellar and to the motor. By that I mean is the water somehow leaking in the leg and coming out as shown in the pictures? That makes sense, because there isn't really a need for water to be in the motor leg, only to pass through the impellar system on its way to the block. Anybody agree or disagree?

No, after it exits the powerhead, it is dumped into the leg. It piles up in there, especially when on the muffs.
All is normal.

When you get her in the water at higher rpm, the exhaust will carry the water out thru the prop hub.

If the water tube was not connected between the pump and the powerhead, you would not be getting a stream out the telltale.

Like I said, normal. It comes out wherever it finds a hole.

Now go boating.
