4-6mph in 12 feet of water at the lake and the prop (stainless) hit a stump. Everything froze up. The flywheel would crank about 2 inches then stop and the prop wouldn't turn. I finally reached down there and moved it with my foot. Then cranked it again and it started, but you could hear gears grinding and I shut it back off. Raised the motor up and there was a golfball size chunk of the lower end missing about 6 inches back from the prop. All the oil and bits of metal oozed out.

It's a 1995 50hp Evinrude. Can anyone help me find the part number or where to get a new lower unit.

This happened on Saturday. I thought my weekend was bad enough when I was casting a worm with my GLoomis $200 rod and it snapped in half between the cork and the bottom eye hole.

Holy cow!! A G Loomis broke that easy? Glad I got a Star Rod. Obviously the extra bucks was worth it. I'm assuming they'll replace it for free, right?

Oh yeah, the lower unit. Look right here on iboats. They have 'em.

Sorry to hear about all the bad luck.

G Loomis will replace the rod. You will probably have to pay for shipping. They've replaced a fly rod for me before. They were nice about it.

I wish evinrude would replace lower units that way.
