Is it ok to just drain the lower unit for winter and fill it up in the spring, or do you need to keep it full?
Thanks, Scott

Re: lower unit winterization

keep it full, also check the area where the bearing carrier meets the case at the retainer for corrosion, to much and it can crack the case.
most carriers need to be removed periodically if run in saltwater or case cracking is assured.
may take 5 or 7 years but most crack eventually. freshwater boaters dont have that issue.
but with no oil the moisture in the air will allow the shiny parts to rust.
