I picked up a used Lowrance LCX 28c HD unit for my dad. It did not come with a GPS antenna. It was taken off of a friends 16 foot boat and did not come with the GPS puck.

I would like to get the GPS working, but not spend a fortune. Does anyone know of low cost GPS antennas that will work with LCX units? Will any NMEA 2000 compatible antennas work?

Thanks

LCX does not support NMEA 2000

Need to use serial com (NMEA 0183) Don’t remember if the LCX i had used proprietary com protocol or not.

Nothing cheap about finding parts to support for 20 yro electronics

Thanks for the replies.

I will do a little more research and maybe call Lowrance. The spec sheet indicated that the unit is compatible with NMEA 2000 networks.

I may have to look for a used puck or just use it as a sounder/fish finder.

I was hoping there was some kind of a low cost solution.

There is nothing “cheap” about NMEA 2000 components....the value is convenience.

Your looking for a Lowrance LGC 4000 gps antenna but you’ll still need to install a NMEA 2000 back bone between the unit and the antenna.

A back bone bone will run you $75-$100. The LGC 4000 on eBay will run you $125 and up

Thanks for the feedback.

The least expensive option I have found so far is the Evermore SA 920.It is a NMEA 0183 antenna. The company states it is compatible with the Lowrance LCX 28.

I will post an update if I decide to go with The Evermore.

Looking at the data sheet, the antenna comes as a bare wire assembly. You’ll need to buy and install a connector to match your unit.

Do you have map chips for the unit? The Base map is pretty poor

It didn't come with any map chips. I did see that there was no connector included.

I will need to add up the cost of the components needed to make this work and decide if i will proceed.

I'd watch c'list or facebook buy sell groups for something used,
Much cheaper that way,...Even see some old mapping chips once and awhile,..
