Re: Lowrance all in one
LMS-240 is a fishfinder with a gps option.
The unit only has the 200 khz transducer options.
In general 200 khz is used for shallow water (up to 200 Feet fresh water or 150 feet saltwater). The 200 khz is better at seperating fish near the bottom on in a school, but will not show fish very deep as the signal gets weaker in deep or saltwater. The 50 khz is great for deep water and saltwater, but may show fish in a school as one bit bolb or a fish on the bottom as part of the bottom. 200 KHZ transducers in general are between 8 degree and 20 degree cone angels, use the 8 degree in water up to about 150 and the 20 for up to about 100. 50 KHZ in general are form 30 to 45 degrees.
A skinner is just another name for a transducer. Newer units are smaller and run a little better in the water.
The units can zoom with either the 50 khz or the 200 khz transducers. The LMS-240 only uses the 200 Khz transducers. With the standard 20 degree transducer should be able to see fish up to about 150 feet freshwater or 100 feet saltwater. Unit has a 4 times zoom.
The unit has a GPS with the WAAS feather now but still many units in stores that do not have the WAAS feather for accuracy up to 18 feet.
Hope this helps. Pretty good unit for fresh water but if you plan a lot of saltwater fishing I would get a unit with a 50 khz option.
