Hi all...

I recently purchased a 1991 Celebrity 230 cuddy with a paltry 348 hrs(checked the hr meter on the engine at the marina)on it. It's been sitting for 4 years so they're prepping it and I should get it next week. Anyhow...in the mean time, I was poking around the local "Fleet Farm" for some seats to put in my little fishing boat and wandered over to the electronics aisle. Lo and behold...a "Clearance" sale. I picked up a Lowrance Elite-7 CHIRP for $399. As far as I could tell...it's about $150 less than Amazon. New in the box! So...anyone have any tips on mounting and set-up? Also, I'll need to purchase maps apparently...but what does the unit come from the factory with? The manual is pretty vague regarding this. I'm using it primarily as a chartplotter and for depth. Thanks in advance...

Oshkosh1, not sure but I think you have to buy the transducer for it. And that transducer has temp in the transducer as well. Could be wrong because I did look at a lot of different units now. :noidea:

You can get them with or without the transducer, so he'll need say which it is. You won't need to buy maps unless you want more detailed info on local bodies of water, and not all of the maps you buy are an upgrade to what's already installed, so don't worry about that yet.

I believe the maps that come with it will not show depths on the charts.
If you want depths you might need a chip although some do come bundled with a navionics type chip.

The sonar will show depths.

I have similar Lowrance units, the maps they come with are rather good, the ones I purchased were only slightly better, and only on some lakes, many were identical. They have the same contour and depth lines as the aftermarket maps on many (most) lakes. That's why I said to not worry about it until later, see if more info is needed on the frequently visited lakes first.

I have the smaller Elite 4 Chirp. They come with maps you install yourself when you set it up. They are pretty cool. :)
