I have a lowrance lms 525df. It loses bottom constantly at low or high speeds. Doesn't matter where I put the transducer, how I set up the ping speed or if I set it to 50 or 200khz. I thought it was the transducer so swapped it out and have the same problem. Wired and rewired properly. Any one out there with any suggestions. I don't even want to sell it because it will come back to haunt me. Lowrance co. was no help. I have been a loyal guy with their products but have my doubts with this one.

Does it work with the boat is at rest? If so, it's your transducer installation that is causing the problem.

I use my 525df with a shoot-thru skimmer that came with the gps-fishfinder. I lose the bottom on occasion, but it's not been a consistent problem... I use it only as a backup depth gauge...and it usually reads within 1 ft of the main stand-alone Faria thru-the hull transducer.

I think it's your installation.

Where you mount the transducer is key to performance. If it is in-line with any protrusions (strakes, rows of rivets) or any similar items on the bottom of the boat, those items can cause turbulence (air bubbles) and the transducer simply won't work. If it works ok at rest, that is evidence the transducer is installed in the wrong spot. It should also be mounted off to the starboard side of the boat as far away from the engine as possible.
