Hey,

Have a Lowrance LCX-18C Fishfinder/Chartplotter with the dual frequency skimmer transducer with temp/speed. For the last two months, the unit hasn't been able to pick up depth and shows 0'. It picks up the temperature and speed fine, though. It also recognizes the dual frequency transducer connected, and works fine in simulation mode. I tried cleaning the bottom of the transducer, but still made no difference.

any suggestions?

thanks.

Re: Lowrance Fishfinder Problem

Cpt Jon
Is the transducer still pointed down or has it hit something and kicked up?

Does it fail in 200khz and also in 50khz the same way?

Is the sensitivity turned all the way down?

Have your removed the transducer cable and reseated a few times and is the connector clean?

Does it give a digital reading but not display the bottom singal?

Have you tried restoring factioy defaults? Go to System Setup and hit enter then move to reset options and hit Enter move to yes and hit ENTER.
This will likely clear trip logs and all the counters.

Have you Called Lowrance?

Boatist,

Transducer is still pointed properly. I just had the boat hauled to clean it a few days ago.

It fails in both 200khz and 50khz.

The sensitivity is turned all the way up.

I have removed and reseated the cable and cleaned the connector pins.

It gives no reading OR bottom signal. It does give digital reading of temp and speed, however.

I'm going to try resetting the defaults tonight.

Please let me know if you have any more suggestions, Thanks.

Captain Jon
If possible, turn your unit on then reach down and lightly press against the bottom of your transducer. You should be able to feel a thump, thump, de thump, etc. It is erratic with no particular pattern. Better yet if you can put the boat on a trailer, turn your unit on and do likewise. The pinging should be audible, almost like an electric cattle fence that is shorted out somewhere but no where near as loud. If you don't hear or feel the pinging I'd say your transducer is defective.

Re: Lowrance Fishfinder Problem

I had the same problem and it turned out to be a bad transducer. It was 2 years old. I have a LCX-15mt. I talked with Lowrance and they said the same thing. Though the transducer was out of warranty they still sent me a new one free of charge which makes me think they have had problems with this unit.

Captain Jon
I agree with others with your settings sounds like a transducer. Only thing that bother's me is I am pretty sure the two transducer are totaly seperate other than shareing wires.

I would sure call Lowrance. Would not hurt to mention that most people on the board think sound like a transducer. This would let them know how they handle problem could gain or loose them customers.

Good Luck

Re: Lowrance Fishfinder Problem

I just bought an LCX-18 last year and worked great for about 3 months. Mine did exactly as yours and changing the angle, cleaning and new settings didn't do diddly. I called Lowrance and they walked me through a few different tests and found the transducer was bad. I had a new ducer at my door later that week at no charge. The customer svc rep all but admitted there being a problem with the ducer's and they shouldn't give you any grief at all. Good luck.

Re: Lowrance Fishfinder Problem

Hey again

tried resetting all the settings as Lowrance suggested, didn't do anything.

also tried to feel the bottom of the ducer, didn't feel anything even when applying pressure to the bottom

it's still showing temperature and speed though, and occasionally showing inaccurate depth's like 70-90 feet at the dock (3-4 feet)

guess it must be a faulty ducer, ill call lowrance and see, but if anyone has any more suggestions let me know thanks
