G'day
First post after having a bit of a look around. I have a Whittley 2590 with a 4.3MPI Bravo3. I want to know fuel flow and have a Lowrance 528 combo gps/sounder. The Lowrance sender unit to tie in with the 528 is on the nmea2k with the ext gps. The sender has to go after the fuel filter. My MPI has a return line to the filter. I have heard that the Lowrance doesn't work on a fuel system that returns to the tank. And Lowrance says it won't work on EFI systems.
Can I get it to work if I put in an inline filter before the main filter?
Thanks.

Re: Lowrance fuel sender on 4.3MPI

Fuel systems with a return line deliver fuel to the engine but the excess is returned to the tank via the return line. So regardless where or how many fuel filters are placed, the transducer will measure the total fuel passing through it including that going to the engine as well as the excess going back to the tank. That would represent a very inaccurate fuel flow rate.

Mercruiser does not return fuel back to the tank, but you do not want to damage or cut any of the fuel lines on the engine after the fuel filter. If you must use a fuel filter, install a new one before the engine mounted filter, then put the transducer after the filter.

Thanks Don. I figured as much. Any advice on a filter?
I'll have to check what room I have available.
