Lowrance H2Oc burns chip

Took out my H2Oc this evening to hardwire it into my boat using Lowrance's power cable. Before I even had it hooked up, the opening screen would not stay on. I figured the batteries were dead and replaced them. Second set got to the satellite page but the battery meter went from full to empty in about thirty seconds. Upon opening the battery door, I noticed that a hole had burned through the Navionics chip and the chip was extremely hot. I took out the chip and put the batteries back in and the unit functioned normally. The second problem is that now the cigarette lighter adapter won't work on it either. It won't recognize that it's hooked up. I tried another cord and another H2Oc on my cord and that GPS was normal. Any ideas or speculations would be helpful.

Call up support but wait till about Wed when the hold times are down :)

Its got some kind of BIG internal problem NOW that seems to be realted to the power adaptor :(

Was that hardwired or plug in ? it sounds bad or reverse polarity to build up that kind of heat

I have never seen a card burn up in anything ?

Even if you have a spare SD card i would not risk putting it in a this point .

tommays

Is this new? Take it back to the vendor and swap it out. It's defective.

Re: Lowrance H2Oc burns chip

It wasn't plugged in. Just the batteries did this. I was turning it on to see how low the batteries were before I put it on the power cable. A friend of mine put the burned up card in a card reader on a computer and couldn't extract any data off of it. Looks like I'm out of a $200 fishing map card. I figure I'd call Lowrance tomorrow morning. I bought it before Xmas. The 60 day return deal is up. I have to send it back to Lowrance to be fixed or replaced.

Sounds a bit strange.

There is encryption on the Navionics Chip so you wouldn't be able to get any useful information anyway.

It's being FedExed tomorrow. Hopefully they can give me a reason for the problems. He put it in his H2O to see if it was the GPS. The card reader was another try at seeing if something could read it. So then every GPS and ChartPlotter that takes Navionincs chips has the encyrption software that it takes to read the cards???
