I just purchase a new Lowrance HDS-7 Insight USA with a 50/200 ducer. Did I pick the correct ducer being that I most fish in the Panama City Beach area, West Bay & St Andrews Bay, but may go out in the Gulf about two miles max. I manileyt fish for Speckled Trout & Redfish.

Should I have opted for the 83/200 transducer that has the 120* angle for finding fish or did I make the right decision. I was able to get this at a good price $980.00 shipped

I do not know your area at all but if the water is deeper than 400 feet then the 50/200 is a good choice. The 83 khz has a wider cone angle but if fishing for bottom fish in area with uneven bottoms you will see more fish with the 200 khz transducer because of the dead zone.
You can always buy the 200 Khz and add it along side of the 50/200 Khz unit.
All you have to do is switch the transducer cable on the unit and then can use the 83 Khz. The 83 Khz should be good for finding mid water fish then all you have to do is figure which side of the boat they are on.

I won't worry about the depth when selecting a transducer for this unit.

A friend of mine stopped by with some screen shots from his HDS-10 he took over the weekend. The unit had no problem at all picking up fish laying on the bottom in 1000 feet of water using a Airmar P66, 200kHZ transducer.

Knowing this I'd would have opted for the 83kHZ to cover more ground.
