Hi,i have a lowrance lcx112c and the 3000 modual decided to pack it in.The cursed GPS NOT RESPONDING message.Tried everything, checked connections, hard reset, getting 12v to the modual still nothing. The question is i have a navman, northstar modual and was wondering if i can cut the end of it and hard wire to the open nmea cables coming out of the lowrance.Has anyone used a generic modual on a lowrance? The price of a new 3000 modual in Australia is a bloody joke!!!! Thanks

Sure, there are numerous companies out there that specialize in aftermarket GPS antennas. E-Bay used to have a couple of guys that had aftermarket pucks for sale.

Thanks mate. The navman modual is an active antenna like the lowrance 3000 and what i can gather the nmea 0183 wires on the lowrance dont put out 12v.Correct me if im wrong so are the generic moduals active??

Theoretically, any NNEA-0183 antenna should work. The buss uses 5V, not 12.

The problem is working out the wiring. The navman antenna has 6 wires and the nmea wires out of the lowrance only uses 3 i think.Yellow, white and shield.

This doesn't answer your question but have you tried another puck to verify that your existing puck is bad and it's not your unit? I had the same problem with my LCX113 that gave the same message. So I connected my LCX112C to that puck and it worked. Then I connected the LCX113 to my other boat which gave me the message that the GPS is not responding. So I called Lowrance tech dept who instructed me to ship my unit back to them where they verified that it was "fried". They replaced it with a new (not rebuilt) LCX113C HD for $500.

Are you sure the power to the antenna is good and no blown fuses?

Yeah mate.checked fuses, checked wiring.Used a multimeter to test for 12v at the end of the extension going to the reciever.Even popped the top of the modual and checked for 12v power on the wires inside.Definetly getting power to the modual. If i go to the menu that checks for nmea devices there arnt any.So the set isnt recognizing the modual. It says its tx messages but not rx anything.Hopefully just the modual and not the set.Im guessing in the menu that shows your connections its meant to be TX messages and RX messages.Im not sure,i have never looked at that menu when it was working

Another thing when i look at the manual it says to use 2 120ohm caps on the end of the double tee im using but since i have had the set and the way it was originally connected by the previous owner there has only been one 120ohm cap and nothing on the other end.I have used this lowrance like that for over a year without a problem until now.Not sure if that has anything to do with it.

I have come across a replacement 3000 modual. The only thing is it has a black connector instead of a red one. Will this modual be compatible???

No the connections are different.

My brother uses a 3000 modual with red connector on a lowrance 7200c.He has an extension cable with 2 black connectors that works fine with the red modual. So there couldnt be to much difference. The 7200c head unit doesnt have a red terminal so there might be a adapter cable for a modual with black connector that fits red terminal. What do you think??

Yeah no worries. The black nmea 2000 connectors are compatible with the red connectors.Plug straight in,no adapter needed.Just hooked up the 3000 moduel with the black connector to my red bus and working fine.I think i worked out how the original 3000 **** itself. When it died i was out in Moreton Bay Brisbane Aus and we just had the worst floods in 30 years and lots of debrie floating around. There were about 5 or 6 big ships out there using there radars to locate floating objects and from what i hear if the modual isnt esp protected it kills them.Sounds like a good excuse for Lowrance anyway.
