Has anyone out there purchased or are using a Lowrance Mark 4 unit. I received one for Christmas and am disappointed with the outdated map used for their chart screen. It has to be over 50 years old, as it dosen't show structures such as locks and bridges and canals that have been in existance for many, many years. Their chart is really unsafe and almost totally unusable in it's present shape. Has anyone down loaded charts to this unit. It is a cheap unit, under 200.00 but should be up to date. I am calling the Lowrance manufacturer tomorrow, but wanted to get input from others before doing so.
Any comments will be helpful.

All GPS units just come with a base map. If you want more detail then you have to pay for it. That unit has a slot for a micro SD card where you can install a card ( like Navionics) with more detailed info. Check Lowrance website.

I have the color version of that unit in one of my boats and the GPS mapping is better than most others that cost much more. I also have a Navionics SD card for inland lakes and rivers. On the lakes and rivers I frequent the Navionics mapping is about the same or just a little better than the base map that comes with the unit, there are probably bodies of water that the Navionics card has much better detail for though, I just haven't been on one yet.

The Lowrance base maps tend to be pretty good, but this can vary a great deal from one lake to another.
