Does anyone have any experience with the Lowrance Structure Scan ?. I am considering buying one but do not know if it is worth it. The only thing I have heard is that it is only good in flat water.

Re: Lowrance Structure Scan

Structure Scan works best at slow speeds with calmer water. As chop increases, the image is not as crisp but is useful until it begins to get quite rough.

For example, calm conditions will produce detailed images like

.
Note that you can see the anchor chain on the bottom between the barges.

However on a rough day (2-3' chop), you'll see scalloping like

.
Note the wavy edge of the bottom line just aft of the Bomber and the fuzzy bomber image.

Depends on if your a diver or a fisherman. Diving is a good tool. Fishing, not so much

Re: Lowrance Structure Scan

You can and often do see schools of fish in the water column when using structure scan. They look very different from wrecks or wall structure (which often attract fish). The air bladders in fish return strong sonar signals (aka fish arches on a traditional fish finder), but they will not produce a strong shadow on the bottom (like large structure) due to their size and elevation above the bottom.
