I have an old Lowrance X-15 paper graph that was operable with a thru hull transducer mounted in the rear of the boat under the gas tank. The transducer cable was cut about a foot from the connector at the dash. :rolleyes:Questions: (1) Can the cable be spliced without no loss of frequency and (2) if I upgrade to new technology, i.e. Lowrance Fishfinder/GPS, will the old tranducer work?

I don't understand the ?no loss of frequency? comment. Frequency is the speed which the transducer beats. A cable has nothing to do with it. Splice away.

A transducer is a transducer as long as it supports the output frequency of the head unit. You'll most likely have connector problem but that is easily solved by splicing the new connector on to the old transducer.

One thing to think about, transducers are nothing more than electrical drums. They do get worn which produces less signal to the head unit. If the transducer is has a lot of hours on it then a new transducer is probably in order anyhow.

Didn't know quite how to explain the signal produced back to the fishfinder via the transducer and cable. The original unit (X-15 graph) was really never used. I'm understanding that the old tranducer could work provided the connector adapts to the new unit and also the coax cable can be spliced.

No coax. They use a simple multi-conductor cable. ;)
