Im looking to go from 21p to 23p prop on my 1988 blackmax 150xr4.I read one description on ebay of a prop that concerned me a little. It said "this prop will fit all v6 outboards 150 to 250hp(except xr4).so my question is why?is it just an issue of re hubbing the prop or is their dimensional issues i should be aware of when selecting a prop.is the diameter of this lower different than all other 15 spline after 78 motors?thanks

Re: LU dimensions help

The reason is the Xr4 if it has the original lower unit uses a "inline" style prop as the gearcase is only 4.25 dia as the standard V-6 is 4-3/4 dia..

Re: LU dimensions help

so,forgive me,does that mean a specific prop must be purchased,or is that a re hubbing issue?i dont mind getting re hubbed if thats what it needs, but i just got a mirage 3 blade on ebay and now not sure it will work when i get it!good i only paid $82 shipped.i can at least sell it! Most new props state for v6 outboards 1978 and newer. No mention to "except for"anything.SO,what are my options?

Re: LU dimensions help

No rehubbing wont help as diameter is to big, look for a high pitch "inline" prop
