Luan Subfloor for Deck?

There is wood subflooring called Luan. Floor layers use it when they put in a new subfloor for carpet, tile, etc. It's 1/4" thick and fairly flexible.

My question is, if I support it well enough and I glassed both sides, could I use Luan as decking in my restoration? Or is it just too thin?

Thanks!

Re: Luan Subfloor for Deck?

No. 1/4" luan is not strong enough for decking. Maybe if it was laminated with a 1/4" of glass on each side, but luan is not a structural product.

Most boats decks are made from 1/2 or 5/8" ply.
