They have honing oil at napa, i use tranny fluid when i need the hone to cut better but if i am just deglazing a good cylinder i use 10/40 oil..

Trans fluid works fine, we used it all the time when we ran out of honing oil. If you want to cut it down thinner, mix some WD-40 with it.

Slower is better, so you keep control. It depends on when type of hone your using. But slower is better, under 300rpms. Make sure you keep the hone moving in and out, and not in one place long.

If your going oversize with a rigid portable hone, like sunnen makes, you don't have 2 use any oil on the roughing stones (60 grit) up to
.002-.003 under the size your going for. The stones must have never had oil on them though and the cylinders should be clean and
dry. This will give you the fastest cut but be careful. Then you can use atf, hone oil or my old sunnen stones says lard can be used
on the 150 and 220 stones. Never tried the lard thing though. I've honed cylinders for oversized pistons to within .0005 taper and out
of round with a rigid hone from goodson so it can be done.

Like stated depends on type of hone. If the cheap spring hone use ATF or my favorite diesel fuel, or if a ball hone you can use any non silicon based lube in a spray can(you cant remove a lot of material with it). I myself use a Kwik_way FWII boring bar,Sunnen rigid hone and ball hones only for a deglaze.
