I've recently dropped the lower unit to replace the entire waterpump and shift housing cover. According to the repair manual it mentions needle bearing lube for the drive shaft and lithium grease for the drive shaft spline. It also says to use omc adhesive for the prop and the mating surfaces of the gearcase.
The book also lists the various OMC greases and adhesives.
Are there any generic equivolent greases and/or adhesives that can be used for these aplications?
The OMC equivolents tend to be pricey, but I also don't want to damage the motor.
Finally, does it make sense to put adhesive on the propshaft splines? The prop had some type of grease on the splines when I removed it.
Whatever adhesive they uses in the past turned to a fine white powder.
I was thinking of using the autmotive blue thread lock for the bolts.
Any thoughts?
