Hi. Looking to suction out and refill the trim pump's aged fluid on this unit. Says 20 wt oil, is that the appropriate fluid to use or what is now recommended? Has a slight occasional drip into bilge didn't know if adding a sealer like a lucas product would plump up aged seals. Thanks for your help.

Power steering fluid is a good substitute. Feel under the pump, there is a good chance that the 4 “O” rings that are under the aluminum block are leaking. All you need is a 7/16” socket, a 3/8” and 7/16” wrenches to remove the hydraulic lines. This will also drain the pump. When the block is removed check the mounting surface with a straight edge across the bolt holes. You will have to file it to square it up. The 4 “O” rings are common and are easy to find at a hardware store or a NAPA auto supply.
Use some grease to hold the “O” rings in place to remount the block.

All will work just fine,......

I use 5w20 engine oil in my 72, also have an occasional drip from the trim sender but not a big deal. I just keep an eye on the oil level.

Thanks gents, found the leak, a slight drip on one starboard braided hose right around the hose to fitting section. The fitting is tight and dry at the ram itself but fluid comes from out of the braid.

crimp on the hose or the hose is failing. they are intended to last the 15 years that the boat is designed to last. you have close to 50 years of service life. you may just need to get new lines.
