Lubricate shift linkage

I have a 2001 Volvo SX outdrive on my boat.

I am replacing my boat's controller, and cables, and wondering if I should lubricate the shift linkage on the outdrive while I have the cover off. I have the Clymer manual; it doesn't say anything about lubricating that pivot arm or associated parts, but it seems like a good place to put some lubricant. Does anyone have any opinion on lubricating those parts? If so, what type of lubricant?

Thanks!

Nice Boat - I did a quick check in the drive manual and did not see where it states that lubrication is needed. I could email you the drive manual if you PM me with an email address ;)

No lube on the drive linkage is necessary. The water works fine for no more than it moves.
