Is there an easy way to put a dab of grease in my quicksilver shifter or does the entire unit need to be dissasembled? The large black button that engages nuetral is just a little sticky , not real bad though.

Re: Lubricating a shifter

Do Not spray with WD-40. It takes condensation away but also dries up everything & in a few days things will be worse. Use lithium grease or marine cable bear grease and inject some with a plastic end of a shringe some of the grease into the cable assembly. The older units had a grease nipple onto the cable at both ends. You can install grease nipples made for cable yourself also.
Cheers

Agree
WD-40 is a penetrant not a lubricant.
spray lithium or silicone is the good.
taking apart is always the best but not always needed.

Re: Lubricating a shifter

Being both a solvent(Cleaner)(40-50%) and lubricant(15-25%), I would think it would be perfect for the job....

Re: Lubricating a shifter

Its a very short term lubricant. it lubrifies to help remove water, rust but then the fuel based sokvents in it quicky evaoporate the lube. Whats left is now a dry surface / part that is clean, water & rust free and can be lubricated properly with the needed different lubricant.

Cheers

will 2-4-C grease work for this? And how would I get it behind the nuetral button. I hear it is an absolute nightmare taking these shifters apart , so I am defenetely not going that route! lol !

Re: Lubricating a shifter

I have the same problem - throttle only button is stuck in. Does anyone know how to take this apart? I have the button removed - there is a slot for a screwdriver on one part of the button. Be careful not to scratch the black on the shifter! Behind the button looks like a nut that is recessed and probably wont accept a socket as there is only about 1-2mm exposed. This is probably exposed when the button pops out? I'm going to get some lube injected and try that.

My part is a side mount pistol grip with trim. This is on a 2000 Rinker Captiva 212.
