LUCKY it didn't happen sooner!

During the New London Sail Fest/Tall Ship Parade day, I was motoring down the Thames River to go fishing in the Sound. Manuvering amongst the hundreds of anchored parade watchers, I had a few photo opportunites that I took advantage of without anchoring, becuse I'd be soon on my way beyond all the parade commotion to go fishing. The manuvering included me going in and out of gear, both forward and reverse to keep myself from driftnig into the anchored boats. After about 15 mintues of photographing I left the area to fish cross the sound. Once I got to my spot (miles away from the crowds), I wanted to reset my drift when I found that the engine would not go into gear, forward or reverse. I had to get towed in.
Glad to have insurance when you need it and glad it didn't break down when I was among the anchored parade watchers!:facepalm:

Is good but at worst you'd just of had to become one of the anchored parade watchers while you waited for a tow.

How bad could it have been? We were in the crowds on the pier in New London that night, I took us over an hour from the time we got in the Jeep at the courthouse in New London to get back to Norwich that night. Screw that, by next summer, we plan on being in the water for that weekend!

I work the "Harbor Safety" patrol as a volunteer for our Harbor Fests each year; it's a lot of fun and our job is mostly to keep people going, or out of areas they shouldn't be in. If you had broken down in the middle of it, calling a tow service would not have been a good idea. Anchor and get someone there to help after the parade part is over, which might entail a towing service, depending. And while embarassing, you would not have been the only one!
