I have a 1995 Lund SV-16 that currently has a 25hp Yamaha that weighs 115lbs plus a Honda Bf5 kicker that weighs 67 lbs I think. The thing is I purchased a 1987 35hp Johnson on craigslists that I have now been told weighs somewhere between 180-190lbs. Will this plus the kicker be too much transom weight? I use it in Southeast Alaska and dont want to take water over the stern. Anybody with any ideas?

I don't know the answer to your question, but if it were me I would be inclined to pull out my long distance calling calling card and give the technical support folks at Lund in New York Mills, MN a call and ask them directly just to be sure. The phone number to the main office is 218.385-2235 (according to 2007 catalog. You might have to leave a voice-mail message, but if you do be sure to include your e-mail address in addition to your phone number.

The weight you've been told for the Johnson 35 sounds heavy to me since they are essentially the same motor as the 25's offered from 76(ish) to 2005. It ought to be close to the same weight at that Yamaha you currently have. You can check the NADA bluebook site and find a weight for that engine.

If, on the other hand, the Johnson yu just bought is about 10 years newer and is a 3-cylinder, it is quite a bit heavier than the older 2-cylinder designs. I think they weigh around 175 pounds but are great engines (you might want to disconnect the automatic oiler though and run premix as this was a sore spot).

I have a Lund Rebel 16 that is more or less the same hull as the S-16. This year I replaced my 120 pound Johnson 25 with a 240 pound Evinrude ETEC 40...there are NO weight issues with this setup.

I have run many S-16's over the years and we regularly hung a 9.9 (75 pounds) next to the 25 horse without problem.

I think you're going to be fine!

Yeah,

Tested it and it is fine, As far as that outboard goes it's actual weight per operators manual is 191lbs, I can attest that its that heavy, it is a 44.9 CID two cylinder, same block that is used up to a 60hp version.

You could trade down the kicker to less than 40 lbs with a 4hp 4 stroke Yamaha!
