1988 merc 45hp classic fifty
been ages since i had to time it but since i've done a bit of repairing to it i figure i should check it all out - but theres some conflict in max timing number
last time i timed this motor i had someone drive it while i checked the numbers with the light and the max timing in the book says to adjust to 32 inorder to get a final max adv. of 30 deg. again this under live testing in the water .
now if i was to do a static time - refrences are made to time it at 2 deg. less than book spec so that running it on the water will give the correct final 30 deg.
does this sound right to any of you merc techs out there if so why does "live timing " differ from "static timing in that you would increase timing 2deg. vs. decreasing timing 2 deg. for static timing .
