m/c 350 mpi engine number

G'Day All. What I am trying to find out is the year my 350 mpi was made. The engine number is OW340178. I have recently brought this and was in a new boat. I was lead to belive that it was next to new. When I check out part numbers on another site, by engine number, says that it is before year 2000. I have to get a new block as this one is cracked.
Is ther a site somewhere I can put in the engine number and find what year and details about the number.

Thats a very recent model serial number, definitely not a pre-2000 number. They don't go by model year anymore, but that number was produced in 2005 or 2006.

I have found a some more interesting information.
By Marine Power Service site, I have found that this is in fact a 6.2 efi Bravo by their engine number lookup http://www.marinepowerservice.com/B...ear/1998/pickDrive/0W310000 THRU 0W649999.cfm.
So am I correct in assuming that this is infack a 6.2li.

No you are not correct.
Using your system I find it to be in fact a 3.0L

A Merc serial number is set by date of build --- the next number in line could be bravo drive or 800hp engine.
