M/C 470 Voltage Question

I have a M/C 470 with a 2 year old Breezework altenator conversion. My dash volt meter reads 13 and sometimes a little less volts, always 12.75 - 13 volts or a little more. I tested my altenator straight off the hot terminal on the altenator (3 wire) with a digital volt meter and was getting a consistant 14.5 to 14.65 volts. Is this good or is it too high? Also 8.5 volts from the + terminal on the coil.

Try reading the voltage directly off the terminals of the meter, compare to the meter reading. 14+ volts is what you should see when running. The fully charged battery (engine off) should read 12.6 volts.

The reason I did the digital meter test was to determine whether my alternator was going bad or my guage is off. The digital meter reads 14.5-14.65 volts straight off the back of the alternator.
Conclusion:
Dash guage is not correct or voltages is lost on the way to the guage.
Question:
Is 14.5-14.65 volts tooo much voltage?

your alternator is fine your gauge is the problem my boat is a 1983 i just replaced the fuel gauge because it stopped workin i know my voltage gauge isn't working i did the same test as you straight off the alternator 14.5 gauge shows 12 volts so your fine with the 14.5-14.65 so Bond-o and stonyloam are correct

+ 1. My gauge reads 13.5 for an actual 14.3. Just checked it today.
