I am in the process of cleaning an flushing the seawater system on my 470. I put a new Altenator on last year from Breezeworks and it works great. I have removed the old voltage regulator and have two questions about it.

1) Last year whan I put the new altenator on I cut and taped off all the wires going to the regulator except the red/purple, which I could not see. Now that I have the regulator off and disconnected the red/purple from the "sense" connection, what do I do with it?

2) How can I bench test the regulator to see if it is good? What's the market value of one of these regulator that is working?

Re: M/C 470 Voltage Regulator Question

....... Now that I have the regulator off and disconnected the red/purple from the "sense" connection, what do I do with it?

...being as you already have the stator wires (yellow/red) dead-ended and taped, the output wire (orange) dead-end and taped...just do the same with the sensing lead (red/purple). I removed mine all the way back to where the stator used to live!

.......
2) How can I bench test the regulator to see if it is good?

....refer to Mercruiser Manual #3, Section 3 (Elect. Systems), Page '3C-50'.

....... What's the market value of one of these regulator that is working?

....head on over to Flea-Bay and compare prices.
