M/C 470 Water Flow Question?

I have taken off my lower unit and in stalled a complete new seawater pump. W/O the engine running and the water hose from the transome pass thru copper nipple removed. Should I expect to see water flowing from the nipple when I have the garden hose on and the muffs on the lower unit?

No. the impeller blocks it.

I thought I had a clog and I had checked all the passages when I had it a part.
