i could be mistaken, but i believe the new vazer(vaser?) is an aluminum block w/cast iron head.

best i understand, when using dissimilar metals for head and block. they will always be fwc due to needing a constant temp throughout the engine.

I take it by the number of stars a Vice Admiral out ranks a Rear Admiral!

So anytime they had an aluminum block and a cast iron head, they used a seawater cooled heat exchanger and a contained engine water cooling system, cooled by the heat exchanger?

Ziggy & Bt Doctur,
Your both a great help.

I am a decent mechanic, but sometimes have trouble with diagnoses.

Thanks for your help.

I'm not going to do it yet, but someday I'm going to hook the freshwater sterndrive straight to the engine and by pass that heat exchanger. But I think I will wait till she's on her last legs.

I'm not sure why you would want to do that?
That heat exchanger is probably the best part of having a 470 ;)
What would lead you to want to eliminate the XG?
You having an overheat issue?
