Hi,
Anyone use a M-Y Wedge transom saver?
http://www.aleader.com/mywedge/index.html

Does it really work?
It is supposed to eliminate "trailer shock" so the outboard is not swinging up/down in bumps etc and also provide good height from the road surface.

By the way, why I ask is because I can not tilt down the outboard completely with my boat/trailer combination since I have only a few inches clearance from fin to the road then. With the M-Y Wedge transom saver it seems You get good height from the ground.

/Bo

It says it works on "New, Modern" transoms. ?
I have never seen one.
On the road, or at a dealership.
If it was the way to go, I think the dealers and boat stores would be selling them.

It says it works on "New, Modern" transoms. ?
---------
Hi,
There is also a "Universal" m-ywedge for single ram power tilt systems.

I have never seen one.
On the road, or at a dealership.
------
OK.

If it was the way to go, I think the dealers and boat stores would be selling them.
-------
Probably so, or a) The m-ywedge is so new on the market it has not been known by so many yet, and or b) they sell only from aleader.com site and not via resellers the normal way.

If it works as advertised it could be a very good product. Hope it is since I'm going to try one for my Yamaha F115.

/Bo

Looks to me like it still transfers all shock to the transom.

Transom savers transfer shock to the trailer frame.

I will stick with a transom SAVER, thanks.

JB,
Good point.
But the picture showing the "tube" mounted on one of the trim/tilt rods seems rather safe and will probably be a rather good "support" for the outboard in up-tilted position? Who knows... anyway I'm going to try one.

One thougt I have regarding M-Y Wedge transom saver:

In a bump you get both a swing up and also swing down of the outboard. The M-Y Wedge can not take care of up swing as far I understand and this will stress the Trim&Tilt system?
Swing down it will probably take care of rather good although all force is transfered to the outboard (and not to the trailer).

/Bo

Bo,
If you try one please let me know as I too am interested.

Regards the "up swing or bounce", I don't know of any device that controls the up bounce.

Gotta agree with JB on this. I always thought that transfering the "bounce" and shock to the trailer was the perpose of the transom saver. As JB said, looks like the boat transom would still get it all with this device. And if I'm not mistaken, most Johnson/Evinrudes have a built in trailering lock that swings down when the engine is tilted up.

I'll stick with my original transom saver also.

Re: M-Y Wedge transom saver - good?

After looking at the image, I'm wondering whether the purpose of this device is to soften the force of the bounce rather than transfer it to the trailer as other transom savers do.

As is, I can't use the transom saver I have to support the OB on my Yacht Club trailer frame since the rollers stick back at least a foot from the last frame crossmember. Perhaps I can make a crossbrace though to fit across the roller supports and support the motor from there.

You know if one would ask me, it looks like one more thing to forget before you launch the boat. You have to worry about the plug, straps, unpluggin the lights, setting parking brake, transom saver ,this thing... way too many things to think about when the fish are hitting.

going fishing,
Shawn

Bo,

It looks like an adaptation of the stern drive clips used on I/O's.

Agree with the others, use a standard transom saver. Engine to trailer.

Hi,
I have my doubt about the M-Y Wedge transom saver but since it is not that expensive I have ordered one but have not got it yet. If it is crap I will loose some $ but who knows it might do the job fine.

/Bo

John F Jensen,

I have now got the M-YWedge and used it. In my opinion it works fine. The outboard gets tilted up some (as can be seen on the picture I posted above some time ago). It gives good clearance to the ground so no risk to get the fin touching the road in bumps.
There is no problem in bumps with the M-Y Wedge in my experience.

It works as advertised as far as I can judge. For me it works great so far and is probably worth the $ I paid for it (inluding freight to Sweden where I live).

I maybe should add that M-Y Wedge is made of rubber. I have Yamaha F115 (2003) 4-stroke.

I maybe will post some images of my outboard and boat with the M-Y Wedge mounted - I just need to borrow a digital camera...

/Bo

You still have all the weight of the outboard on the transom and when going down road hitting bumos and stuff, you are still putting undo stress on it.

You might want to get you a regular transom saver before you hit hole and lose motor on road, and m y wedge along with it.

Re: M-Y Wedge transom saver - good?

I agree with most the others. I see how it may cushion the bouncing on the transom but the stress is still on the transom and not the trailer.

I do have a question about this subject though. I have a bunk type trailer and I have the transom saver that hooks on the bottom roller. It seems that every time I put my boat on the trailer, it varies by up to 3 inches or so from front to back. What would the affect be on my motor or transom if I were to have to do an emergency stop and the boat were to slide forward on my trailer. Is my transom saver actually going to cause damage to my motor or transom in that case?

My wife think I am being paranoid and over protective of my baby. Is she right?

I would think that if your boat can move that much from use to use, that your bow stop and winch post are not set up properly. You might want to check out the height of the bowstop in relation to the boweye, and use a bow tiedown strap.

Re: M-Y Wedge transom saver - good?

As a fishing guide / charter boat Captain I average pulling my trailered boat(s) some 5000 miles per year for fun, tournament fishing and work and having done so for the past 30+ years I've lost count of the number of conventional "transom savers" I've broken and had to replace. M-Y Wedge has put an end to my worries.... I wish someone would have come up with this idea years ago. My current boat is rigged with a four stroke Suzuki 175 and I have nothing but praise for the M-Y Wedge and no I don't have links to the company I bought mine on line and wouldn't trade it for a speckled pup and a red wagon to boot.

Looks like you could make one quite easily from the photo. The link does not work for me.

Re: M-Y Wedge transom saver - good?

I have one. It's packed away in a box of old unused accessories. I didn't like it because it did not stop the upwards bouncing and still put the O/B's weight on the transom. For $45 in my opinion it's a waste of money. As others have already noted 6 years ago . . if it worked, it's only a piece of rubber. Why wouldn't the manufacturers ship every O/B with one?

I would look at that poster with his one post today as someone who might be connected with the MyWedge company. One would think a "fishing guide and chartered boat CAPTIAN" would know how to spell the word Captain. If he was really a Captain all he would have to do is read the word off his Captain's hat :D :D :D

Funny how he appears out of no where after 6 years with one post to pump up the MyWedge product???

Isn't a MyWedge when someone pulls the back of your underpants up real fast???
