Hi all, looks in the research to be a saltwater 1985. SO far I haven't found any parts supporting this age of engine.. Received this engine recently along with other stuff with a boat.
This is a short shaft, manual start, set up with remote steering and controls, and no tiller arm though there is a place to put it. Rumor is the motor has low hours and has not been in saltwater.. Looks really nice under the cover, no oily film, un molested, no white powder anywhere, the blue is still crisp and shiny, does not look like a repaint.
This was sitting on a small 12 foot boat on a small inland lake, not being used for a while because the controls were stiff, and the pull start rope broke. The recoil assembly was unbolted off the motor... and lost...
No controls with the motor, they were taken off the boat also...
Like I mentioned, The manual pull start mechanism is missing... ( However, since I could turn the motor over I decided to give it a chance anyway, and I stuck it in a water barrel, wrapped a rope around the flywheel and supprisingly the motor started first pull, ran good, reved up, idled)
Motor pees, but not like I think it should.. The lower unit oil was clean when I drained and refilled.
So finding a complete recoil assembly, and/or a starter for this because it's already been set up for throttle/shifting, I don't get numbers to come up in a search.. Or if I'm looking right, we're talking a pretty penny for those things..
I guess it would depend on the cost of getting a control box, with ignition and controls and starter, versus getting a working but used recoil start assembly so I can at least use the motor...
Thanks, WillieW
